It is fascinating how 3D technology is coming back to the mainstream more than ever before. Back in the early 80s it was quite popular in the movie theatres. I can remember as a young boy going to see Jaws 3D with my parents and how intense it was. I was also mesmerized by those paper red and blue glasses we had to put on. I can remember taking them off and looking at the screen to see how blurry it was. Now with stereoscopic 3D you don't need the red and blue glasses anymore. Now the glasses have a slight tint to them and that's all.
It is interesting how 3D died out for a long time and is now having a resurgence. Now it seems that half of the movies coming out are in 3D. You can also get a television that displays movies in 3 dimensions as well. You have to have the appropriate Blu-Ray player set up for this, but you can now enjoy this stuff in your own home. Sony also released the first games to utilize this technology as well on their PlayStation 3 console.
It is looking like the next step will be virtual reality if they can ever get it to work properly and without making people sick. I remember the first helmet sets they had at the mall years ago you could try. It was cool at the time for a kid. I am sure that they will one day perfect the technology and then it will do the same thing that 3D technology is doing today. Soon you will probably be able to stream a movie in 3D to your TV or computer
